Fire Chiefs from around Lake County urge residents to use extreme caution and follow the rules this autumn when using outdoor fire pits and open burning landscape waste. The leaves are turning colors and falling quickly. Many residents enjoy open burning and sitting by a warm fire pit. However, there are many hazards associated with outdoor fires. Children and families are invited to support the Pink Heals Tour, and earn about firefighting and life-saving techniques at the annual fire department open house.
Come on out to the Libertyville Fire Department, 1551 N. Milwaukee Ave., to learn about fire prevention and safety while supporting the Pink Heals Tour. Those who attend will be able to sign a pink firetruck that will be at the station. "The Pink Heals Tour is a national organization that paints firetrucks pink, to raise awareness for any type of cancer that women battle," said Ken Komers, assistant fire chief. Planned activities include a rollover simulation that demonstrates how people can get ejected from vehicles when they aren't fastened in.
