'Biggest Loser' Weight Loss Resort Coming to Chicago Suburbs

The fourth Biggest Loser Resort will be located in Itasca.

The "Biggest Loser" will bring its weight loss camp to the Chicago suburbs. Fitness Ridge Worldwide LLC, the Los Angeles company that runs the weight loss resorts fashioned around the Biggest Loser show, is expected to announce today that it will open its fourth location in May at the Eaglewood Resort & Spa in Itasca, according to Crain's Chicago Business.  The company already has opened Biggest Loser resorts in Malibu, Calif.; Ivins, Utah; and and Niagra, New York, according to the Fitness Ridge Worldwide website.  "Each of our weight loss resorts offers the same high-quality fitness program that promotes a balanced overall wellness strategy through fitness, nutrition, and wellness education, spa cuisine, relaxation, and camaraderie with …

With child care and many options, joining a gym can be a great mom escape.

Throughout our marriage, my husband and I have had to discuss where we can cut back to maximize our finances. It’s always hard, but in the end, it benefits the whole family. Each time we talk, our gym membership comes up for discussion. My husband is rightfully stubborn against canceling our gym membership, even when things are tight. His reasoning is simple: I am a better person when I regularly go to the gym. When he says this, he’s not talking about my jeans size. He’s talking about my ability to smile while the boys make a mess with PLAY-DOH, make jokes with him after the kids go to bed, and somehow feed the kids, take my son to football practice, and still cover a Parks and Recreation meeting all in one evening. Women on Wheels, Camaraderie Through Biking

A group of Libertyville women find fitness, friendship, and untouched corners of Lake County through cycling.

For more than 10 years, Karen Meserve has wanted to take advantage of the wonderful trails around Libertyville, but she didn't want to just walk the trails alone. She wanted to breeze through them on wheels and share the beauty with other women. “I grew up in this area, so I know all kinds of places," Meserve said. "We have a great area here with such wonderful trails. People need to be using them – they’re free.” In the spring of 2011, Meserve's vision finally came true when she launched Women on Wheels, or W.O.W., a women's cycling group. “When I showed up for the first ride this spring, there were like eight women unloading their bikes and already talking to each other,” said Meserve, the fitness supervisor for Libertyville Sports …
