The District 128 Foundation for Learning will host its third Annual Lace Up 4 Learning 5K Run/Walk on Monday, May 27. The race benefits the foundation and its mission to provide resources for innovative and creative instructional ideas that enrich the experiences and programs for Libertyville and Vernon Hills high school students. There is a new location for this year's event—Westfield Hawthorn Mall. The cost to register is $30 before the race and $35 on the day of the event. Westfield Hawthorn Mall will gain a new store Feb. 15 with the opening of Sephora. The 3,802-square-foot store will carry makeup, fragrances, skincare items and beauty tools and accessories from more than 200 brands. Sephora stores encourage shoppers to sample products in the stores before making purchases. Visitors to the Hawthorn store can request a free express service with a beauty expert. Services include Blush & Bronze, Flawless Foundation, Treat & Conceal, Beautiful Skin, Smoky Eye, Faux Lashes, Perfect Lips, Everyday Eye and Essential Eyeliner. Vernon Hills to vote on concept plan Feb. 19.
Westfield Hawthorn Mall's plans to bring in a new AMC theater and Dave & Buster's have the thumbs up from the Vernon Hills Plan Commission. All that's left is village board approval on Feb. 19. Conceptual plans were approved by planning and zoning last month. Mall renovations are expected to cost $40 million to $50 million, reported the Lake County News-Sun. The planned AMC complex would be a 44,000-square-foot addition to the mall, with Dave & Busters encompassing 39,000 square feet of existing space on two levels. “This game changer is needed at this mall,” said John Genovese, Westfield’s senior vice president of development, in the Lake County News-Sun. Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg isn’t wasting a minute of shopping time on Black Friday. Doors will open at midnight and all stores will be open, spokeswoman Carol Vesely said. In addition to Black Friday sales at the individual stores, the mall is offering a couple of extra holiday promotions. The first 250 pajama-clad adults who enter through Door 1 at midnight will receive a $20 Woodfield Mall American Express gift card as well as a Santa hat. Door 1 is located on the lower level of the JCPenney wing, near Subway and Santa’s Treasure Chest. Early morning shoppers can also qualify for a free shopping tote.
