Libertyville's downtown will be bustling over the next few weeks with several holiday festivities for the entire family to enjoy.
Begin your holiday season in downtown Libertyville where annual festivities will help put you in the spirit. Events are happening November 23 through December 9. The Village Tree Lighting Ceremony is set for Nov. 23. Enjoy refreshments at St. Lawrence Church, 125 W. Church St. from 6-7 p.m. The tree lighting with Santa's arrival is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Cook Memorial Park, 413 N. Milwaukee Ave. Then take a walk through the shops of Mainstreet from 4-9 p.m. for holiday promotions. Children can shop during the Children's Holiday Shoppe at Petranek's Pharmacy, 426 N. Milwaukee Ave. from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Dec. 1 and 8. Children can purchase gifts of up to $5, then help Santa's Elves. Don't forget to get a picture taken with Santa and Mrs. …
Three Libertyville food pantries could use an extra hand this holiday.
Thanks to several local food pantries hundreds of less fortunate families will receive the help they need this holiday season. The Libertyville Township Food Pantry, the pantry at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Mobile Food Pantry of First Presbyterian Church are working for the good of the community. Now, as the weather changes and the fresh produce runs low, pantries are in need of help, by food and monetary donations and by volunteers to help distribute food. The Libertyville Township Food Pantry has served more than 380 families this year. Linda Blatnik, the Township's social worker said they will take any types of donations, and that the pantry is currently running low on canned vegetables. Blatnik said volunteers are also …

Several local parks offer free ice skating.
Lace up your skates and hit the rink this winter. The Libertyville Parks and Recreation Department has three ice skating areas open for you. Also, two forest preserves near Libertyville offer skating: In Vernon Hills the Park District also offers several locations to enjoy outdoor ice skating. To view a map of these locations check out this website. Skating at these Vernon Hills locations is only allowed when the green flag is flying at the rink or pond. If there is no flag, no skating is permitted. There are no restroom or warming facilities at the lakes or ponds. Skating IS NOT permitted on Big Bear or Little Bear Lakes in Vernon Hills.
