The Illinois Tollway is preparing to mobilize its full fleet of 182 snowplows in response to sleet and snow that has already started and is expected to continue overnight into Wednesday around the Chicagoland area, according to a press release. “Our Snow Operations team is monitoring this storm closely and is prepared to manage snowfall throughout the day,” Kristi Lafleur, executive director, Illinois Tollway, said in a statement. “We ask our customers to be patient, drive safely and give our snowplows the room they need to clear the roads, especially during this evening’s rush hour.” Northern Illinois is expected to get 3 to 6 inches of snow from noon until 9 p.m. Some areas could see totals greater than 6 inches should thundersnow …

The Illinois Tollway announced plans to pursue its worst toll violators by filing lawsuits against them in court. The agency plans to begin filing its first administrative judgments in circuit court Sept. 7. “We are sending a clear and strong message to these chronic violators who use the Tollway regularly without paying: ‘Your time is up,’” said Illinois Tollway Executive Director Kristi Lafleur. “Anything less would be unfair to the 98 percent of Tollway customers who pay their tolls on time.” Up to this point, the Illinois Tollway has sent these violators at least five notices, called them at least four times and offered them multiple opportunities to enter a settlement agreement with the option to use a payment plan to settle the debt…

In an effort to keep kids safe and parents worry-free this summer, the Illinois Tollway, Illinois State Police District 15 and U.S. Equities Realty have scheduled free Kids Identification and Safety Seat (K.I.S.S.) events at Illinois Tollway Oases in Belvidere, Lake Forest and South Holland. Parents, grandparents and caregivers are invited to stop by to create kids’ identification cards and get help with child safety seat inspections. The Atkinson Road bridge over the Tri-State Tollway (I-94) in Green Oaks is scheduled to close on Monday, June 11, for approximately two weeks for bridge repairs. The bridge is scheduled to close at 4 a.m. on June 11 and a detour will be posted. The detour will direct eastbound Atkinson Road traffic north on St. Mary's Road, east on Buckley Road (Illinois Route 137) and south on Waukegan Road (Illinois Route 43) to reach Atkinson Road. Traffic heading west on Atkinson Road would take the same detour in reverse. The bridge is closing for deck patching, curb repairs and a polymer deck overlay to extend the life of the bridge. The Illinois Tollway continues its full deployment of all 183 snowplow trucks in an effort to combat snow conditions and keep all 286 miles of roadways clear of snow and ice. The Illinois Tollway has established a formal privacy policy to protect the collection and use of personal information obtained from I-PASS customer records. The policy was implemented to comply with House Bill 3342, which was sponsored by State Representative Kelly Burke (D-Oak Lawn) and State Senator Toi Hutchinson (D-Chicago Heights) and signed into law by Governor Pat Quinn in August 2011.
