The Lake County Sheriff’s Office announced today it will conduct special patrols this Super Bowl weekend cracking down on drunk drivers and seat belt law violators. “We are reminding everyone that if you choose to drink and drive in Lake County this weekend, you will lose,” said Sheriff Mark Curran. “If you plan on drinking alcohol while cheering on your team, pass your keys to a sober driver before the Super Bowl party begins. The Lake County Sheriff's Department will hold its next Citizen Police Academy course starting March 7. Interested residents are invited to apply to the program, which will provide a first-hand look at how the office of Sheriff Mark Curran maintains law and order for the residents of Lake County. The academy is a 10-week program with classes running approximately three hours each on Thursday evenings. The class begins at 6:30 p.m. each evening. Instruction is provided by sworn deputies and civilians in their field of expertise and is designed to provide a hands-on experience. Last night, Feb. 27, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Lake County sheriff’s deputies responded to the Mobile Gas station located at 33199 Route 45 in Unincorporated Grayslake for an Armed Robbery that had just occurred. When deputies arrived, they discovered that three unknown, black males, approximately 20 to 25 years of age, had entered the station wearing ski masks. One of the offenders brandished a black, semi-automatic handgun and demanded money from the cash register. The offenders took approximately $500 and 10 cartons of Newport brand cigarettes. The offenders fled the station on foot heading eastbound through the parking lot. A Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit responded to the scene and searched for the offenders with negative results. …
