Updated: Lake Forest Woman Identified from Lake Michigan Drowning

No signs of foul play; toxicology results pending.

  The 44-year-old Lake Forest woman pulled from Lake Michigan Sunday morning following a seven-hour search has been identified as Victoria Kut. Earlier: Updated: Lake Forest Woman's Identity Withheld To Contact Family Kut, a resident in the 1200 block of Windwood Drive, drowned in Lake Michigan, according to Lake County Coroner Artis Yancy. Kut was reported missing at 3 a.m. Sunday by her husband, who called Lake Forest Police after discovering she was not at home. At 10:15 a.m., a U.S. Coast Guard Helicopter spotted her body floating about two miles east of Forest Park Beach. Yancy said there was nothing unusual about Kut's body, no signs of trauma or foul play. He indicated a toxicology report is still pending and could take up to a …

Newton, Rudd Victorious in Coroner Race

Coroner Artis Yancey of Waukegan was defeated Tuesday.

Coroner Artis Yancey of Waukegan lost his bid to stay in office Tuesday night to political newcomer Thomas Rudd of Lake Forest in the race for the Democratic nomination for Lake County coroner. According to unofficial totals, Rudd received 12,877 votes, or 53.78 percent, while Yancey received 11,066 votes, or 46.22 percent, in the Democratic primary. On the Republican side, Steve Newton of Antioch claimed victory over Howard Cooper of Bannockburn. Newton received 26,070 votes, or 56.14 percent, while Cooper garnered 20,370 votes, or 43.86 percent. The totals do not include provisional or late-arriving vote-by-mail ballots. Two Democrats and two Republicans sought spots on the general election ballot for Lake County Coroner.

Update,  9:14 p.m. Unofficial results show that Democrat Tom Rudd of Lake Forest has taken the victory over incumbent Artis Yancey of Waukegan in the race for Lake County Coroner, with all 415 precincts reporting. On the Republican side, Steve Newton of Antioch beat Howard Cooper of Bannockburn. The totals do not include provisional or late-arriving vote by mail ballots. Two Democrats, two Republicans answer questions at League of Women Voters forum.

  Like their counterparts running for Recorder of Deeds, the four candidates for Lake County Coroner debated over whether the county should maintain a coroner's office or move to a medical examiners system in Sunday's candidate forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Lake County (LWV) at the University Center in Grayslake. Dr. Thomas Rudd, a Lake Forest resident, is a Democratic candidate and has never held an elected office, but has run for the Lake County Sanitary District twice and lost. He is passionate over moving the county from a coroner's office to a medical examiner's system. Lake County Tags Former Police Chief for Coroner

County Board Chairman Stolman says coroner appointee has unblemished career.

Former Waukegan Police Chief Artis Yancey has been chosen Lake County Coroner. Lake County Board Chairman David Stolman announced the appointment at a press conference, today. The county board will vote on the appointment of Yancey at its April 12 meeting. Former coroner Dr. Richard Keller resigned in February after pleading guilty to felony charges of obstructing justice and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. Lake County Seeking New Coroner

In light of Richard Keller's resignation, the county is looking for a new coroner.

Lake County Board Chairman David Stolman is searching for a replacement for Richard Keller who resigned yesterday as the Lake County Coroner. Keller was charged with obstructing justice and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, according to Lake County State's Attorney Michael Waller. After pleading guilty to both felony charges, Keller immediately resigned his post as Lake County Coroner on Tuesday. Stolman now has to appoint someone to fill the vacancy within 60 days, with the advice and consent of the county board, according to Illinois state law. The appointee is required to be a Democrat, which is the same political party as Keller was. The Coroner's Office is a countywide elected office responsible for investigating the manner…

While Lake County Coroner Richard Keller pleaded guilty to two felonies and resigned his position Tuesday, he claimed to be only working to help people. Keller was charged with obstructing justice and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, according to Lake County State's Attorney Michael Waller.
