Charity Turns Away Teen for Not Meeting Fund-Raising Goal

The Relay for Life of GLMV Youths on April 13 had one less participant because he couldn't come up with $100.

A Libertyville High School student said he wasn't allowed to walk in a recent Relay for Life event for Green Oaks, Libertyville, Mundelein and Vernon Hills youths because he hadn't raised the $100 minimum fund-raising requirement, according to the Lake County News-Sun. Anthony Zotto, 18, told the News-Sun that he tried to participate in the April 13 relay at the Libertyville Sports Complex with his own donation of $25 but had to leave the event when he couldn't come up with the whole $100. The American Cancer Society, which sponsors Relay for Life, said that to be fair and consistent to the other students, organizers cannot deviate from the per-participant fund-raising goal, according to the article. Curious situation. There are a lot of fundraising events that are free to anyone that wants to join, usually these are straightforward walkathons. Others have a format that requires a registration fee or minimum fundraising amount in order to participate. I'm sorry he was disappointed, it's a life lesson. Blackhawks 'Roadwatch Party' Coming to Libertyville Sports Complex

Only 500 seats are available for the April 9 Chicago Blackhawks 'Roadwatch Party' at the Libertyville Sports Complex.

Get ready Chicago Blackhawks fans! The Libertyville Sports Complex will host its third annual "Roadwatch Party" on April 9 to give hockey fans a home game experience that's as close to being at the United Center as possible, reported the Daily Herald. Hundreds of fans dressed in Blackhawks gear are expected to turn out to watch the game against the Minnesota Wild on a big screen TV from bleachers and picnic tables set up on the sports complex's basketball court. Learn to play the Chicago Bears way at this no-contact football instruction camp for youths 6 to 14 years old. The camp will be held July 15-19 at the Libertyville Sports Complex.

First Annual New Year's Eve All-Nighter a 'Huge Success'

On New Year's Eve, the Libertyville Sports Complex was filled with kids from all over northern Illinois who gathered to have some fun and ring in the New Year. About 155 kids attended the first annual New Year's Eve All-Nighter, held by the Libertyville 12U Orange baseball team as a means to raise money for an upcoming tournament in Cooperstown, NY. "The event was a huge success," said Dara Dietmeyer, who co-chaired the event with Colleen Scopacasa. New Year's Eve Party Planned for 5th- Through 8th-Graders

Parents, are your children looking for something fun to do on New Year's Eve? Why not drop them off at the Libertyville Sports Complex for the first-ever New Year’s Eve All Night Party? The event is being hosted by the Libertyville 12U Orange baseball team and will be chaperoned by team parents, said Colleen Scopacasa, one of the event organizers. Open to children in fifth through eighth grades, the night will feature a DJ from the Music Now DJ Group, which is part of Improv Playhouse in Libertyville, along with activities and food.
