Township Officials Voice Concern Over Proposed Bill

Libertyville Township officials say they are not against proposed senate bills that may consolidate local governments, but would like to see detailed plans.

At a recent township board meeting, Libertyville Township officials voiced concerns over the proposed Senate Bill 173, which, if approved, would create The Local Government Consolidation Commission to make a list of local governments in Illinois to be consolidated, according to Illinois Senate President John Cullerton’s website. “On some level I think it’s really healthy that we are having this discussion,” said Libertyville Township Supervisor Kathleen O’Connor during a township board meeting. “Unfortunately it’s, ‘Are we really thinking through the legislation?’ that’s really the issue.” O’Connor says the issue with Senate Bill 173 is “it doesn’t really seek the feedback or the participation of local government entities.” “I think the …

Kid Hosts Birthday Party to Benefit Food Pantry

In lieu of birthday gifts, an Adler Park School student requested donations for Libertyville Township Food Pantry.

When Maddy Jacobs turned nine years old, she decided she did not want presents for her birthday. Instead when she sent out her birthday party invitations, she listed items that Libertyville Township Food Pantry needed. “I have dinner every night, lunch and breakfast and some people have no idea when their next meal will be,” Jacobs said. “I had been to Feed My Starving Children before and it was really fun so I thought maybe my friends would like it. It would be hard to find time for a big get-together so I used my birthday for it.” In 2008, Jacobs attended Feed My Starving Children, where people help package food items that are later shipped around the world to children in need. That year Jacobs wanted to do something similar but didn’t …
