Easter Treats Await at Lovin Oven

Bunny cookies, lamb cakes and "Birds' Nests"—oh my!

Easter may be just a few days away, but there's still time to pick up some goodies for your kids' Easter baskets. The cases and shelves at Lovin Oven Cakery are bursting with everything from Easter-themed sugar cookies, cupcakes and other treats. There are six varieties of Easter sugar cookies, said Jennifer Joel, manager at the Libertyville shop. "We've gone through a couple hundred in the last few days," Joel said, adding that the favorite is the bunny-shaped cookie. There are also "Birds' Nests," which feature chow mien noodles covered in chocolate and shaped to look like a bird's nest. The nests are filled with blue candy eggs. "That's the good thing about (Lovin Oven)—there are so many things to look at," said Joel. Customers can also…

Plan Ahead for Paczki Day in Libertyville

The Lovin Oven Cakery locations in Libertyville and Round Lake Beach are now selling the traditional Mardi Gras treat, as is Mariano's Fresh Market in Vernon Hills.

It's paczki time! Lovin Oven Cakery in Libertyville has already been selling paczkis in limited quantities for more than a week "because they are so popular," said day manager Jennifer Joel. "We spend a lot of time baking them." Paczkis, to some, are a last hurrah of sorts on Fat Tuesday (also called Mardi Gras or Paczki Day), which falls the day before the start of the Lenten season. Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting for Catholics.  Paczki flavors at Lovin Oven include strawberry, raspberry, apricot, blueberry and prune along with gourmet special order flavors such as cream cheese, chocolate silk and maple bacon. Joel recommends customers call ahead to order if they need a lot. Come Fat Tuesday, Feb. 12, they'll have "so many it will be …

Libertyville’s Wedding Walk exhibited the town’s bridal offerings.

Libertyville’s third annual Wedding Walk welcomed soon-to-be brides from the Chicagoland area on Saturday. Brides experienced a one-stop wedding planning event where they could browse offerings from 20 participating stores, 15 of which were located right in downtown Libertyville. “It’s been interesting to hear what’s out there,” said bride-to-be Kendal Dean. “There are so many things you need, from invitations, to alterations, to flowers. Businesses Flock to Libertyville

Two businesses moved to Libertyville for its pro-business and family-oriented atmosphere.

Despite a slowdown in the economy in 2010, an art studio and a bakery both chose Libertyville to expand their business. These business owners say they were attracted to Libertyville because it is very family-and business-friendly. "Libertyville is a family-oriented community that is concerned about quality, that appreciates great service, is concerned with growth and wants to see things get better, and always wants to experience the newness in a good positive way," said Matt Slove, general manager of Lovin Oven Cakery, at 355 Milwaukee Ave. The Libertyville location, a second branch for the 21-year-old Round Lake-based business, opened in October 2009. The company moved within Round Lake three times to accommodate growing business needs …
