Route 21 Widening Postponed Until Spring

Milwaukee Avenue construction project expected to be completed in winter of 2012.

The anticipated Route 21 widening construction project is expected to begin in spring of 2012, according to John Heinz, public works director for the Village of Libertyville. Originally expected to commence this fall, the construction project will widen Route 21 north of Route 137. Widening of Route 21 Moves Forward

Illinois Department of Transportation's plans to widen Milwaukee Avenue is scheduled to start in fall.

The land sale will not pose a concern for the village or the school district, according to village documents. In order to perform the work, IDOT requested a five-year temporary construction easement and offered $4,900 in compensation. Board members granted IDOT a temporary construction easement, but was …

Milwaukee Avenue Traffic Congestion Relief Coming Soon

Planned road widening near Route 137 and Milwaukee Avenue intersection likely prompted gas station closure, village official says.

Residents tired of getting backed up in traffic while driving northbound on Milwaukee Avenue near Route 137 are in for a bit of good news, a village official says. According to Libertyville director of community development John Spoden, Illinois Department of Transportation, IDOT,  has already scheduled to begin widening Milwaukee Avenue near the northernmost part of the village, possibly as soon as next summer. Although Milwaukee Avenue is currently two lanes each way near the intersection, it abruptly cuts down to one lane just north of Route 137, which is notorious for causing lengthy backups and delays, especially during rush hour traffic. That will soon change. "It's a much needed project and I'm sure it will make a lot of people who…
