Rainy weather doesn't dampen community spirit.
Cloudy skies, cool temperatures and intermittent showers didn't dampen the spirits of participants at the 18th Annual Fall Park Clean-Up, on Nov. 13. Keep Libertyville Beautiful Commission sponsored the event, which attracted more than 125 people ranging from boy and girl scouts, parents to couples and seniors. The group gathered at Nicholas-Dowden Park to pick up park assignments and trash bags, then fanned out to keep parks throughout the Village of Libertyville litter-free. Gail Knachel and Patty Kerrigan-Lally, coordinators of the clean-up event and members of the Keep Libertyville Beautiful Commission, were pleased with the turnout, particularly considering the rainy conditions. Shoppers on Libertyville's Main Street were sent on an informational scavenger hunt this weekend. The Holiday Stroll was organized by Shop 60048, a volunteer-based organization dedicated to educating people on the benefits of shopping local. Balloons decorated doorways of participating merchants. "People walk in, ask what the balloons are about, then get an explanation about the Holiday Stroll and learn about the store," says Curtis Frame/Back Alley Gallery Owner John Timony. Shoppers were encouraged to answer questions from 15 stores and once they answered all correctly, they could enter their card to win a basket of goodies worth more than $500.
