Selling Your Home at the Holidays

Trying to sell your home at the holidays? RE/MAX agents say holding an open house may be more effective than you think.

Is holding an open house during the holidays a waste of time, or can it really help sell your home? Many home sellers and real estate agents will be asking themselves that question in the weeks to come. To offer some guidance, the RE/MAX Northern Illinois real estate network asked a sampling of its agents who regularly hold open houses at other times of the year for their views on the issue. The primary reason to hold an open house during the period from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day, the agents agreed, is that anyone who stops in is probably eager to purchase a home. “People going to open houses during that period usually are dead serious about finding a home sooner rather than later,” said Sheila Yakutis of RE/MAX Synergy in Orland Park…

Lake County Home Sales Up 22 Percent in September Compared to a Year Ago

RE/MAX says the seven-county metropolitan Chicago area saw a total increase of 22 percent compared to September 2011.

September traditionally marks the beginning of the fall season when home sales begin their retreat from summer highs. This September, however, delivered the most promising results that the seven-county metropolitan Chicago real estate market has seen in several years, according to an analysis by RE/MAX. Sales of detached and attached homes in September totaled 7,396 units, an increase of 22 percent from September 2011 and the most homes sold in any September since 2006.    The average number of days that homes sold in September were on the market before a sales contract was signed declined from 167 days a year ago to 139 days this September. Home Sales Bouncing Back Faster in Metra-Served Towns

RE/MAX reveals the results of its fourth annual Metra Community Study.

Communities served by Metra commuter trains have seen home sales bounce back faster than the Chicago suburban area as a whole, according to the fourth annual Metra Community Study by the RE/MAX Northern Illinois real estate network. The study compared home sales data from three towns along each of the 11 Metra corridors throughout the Chicago suburbs with comparable data from all suburbs in the seven-county metropolitan Chicago real estate market during the first half of the following three years: 2012, 2011 and 2006. The analysis revealed that the Metra-served communities had a greater rebound in sales activity than the suburbs as a whole in 2012 and have seen sales decline less than the suburbs as a whole when compared to 2006. Dold Challengers Offer Ideas on Mortgage Crisis

Some Democrats would require mandatory mediation between lenders and borrowers on underwater loans.

After Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) met with local real estate industry leaders Tuesday to discuss the nation’s housing and mortgage crisis, four of five Democrats hoping to challenge Dold had ideas of their own to share. Though Dold sees possible legislation as a solution to the difficulties being caused to people because home values are dipping below the mortgage balance on their property, he thinks relaxation of certain regulations now will give some quicker relief. Dold also recognizes the current reduction of real estate values is one of the major problems for the economy as a whole. “There is no question as we look at the economy and jobs, housing is a big, important aspect to our economy.” “We can do that but I’m not sure how …

Real Estate Leaders Give Dold Earful

Congressman holds a roundtable to gain local input on improving the housing climate.

Get a room full of real estate industry leaders and the person who called the meeting could get an earful on the current housing market. That is what happened to Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) Tuesday morning in his Northbrook office when he invited 10 real estate professionals from different parts of the industry to his office for a roundtable discussion. “There was a high level of frustration in the room,” Dold said after the meeting. “This is a first step. There will be more meetings. This was a meeting to get an idea of what we in the role of government can do." Dold’s agenda included foreclosure, loan modification and refinancing, under water properties, real estate values, mortgages, stumbling blocks to doing business and other …

I'm to saying don't do Keystone. I'm saying that the President's decision to delayitis correct. The politicians make rash decisions sometimes and we end up regretting it. We've lost many of our rights after Mr. Bush lead Congress into many terrifying decisions that we now live with everyday. All rash decisions and some simply wrong. Job growth is no reason to risk destroying the environment with …   more ›
