Libertyville Road Rehab Project to Start in Early April

The $3.7 million project will include many roads throughout the village.

The latest round of road construction in Libertyville—the 2013 road rehabilitation project—is set to start in early April. The Libertyville Village Board voted unanimously Tuesday night to award the bid for this year's road rehab project to A-Lamp Concrete Contractors, Inc. for just over $3.7 million. The project is part of the $20 million bond referendum approved in March 2012 to improve/rehabilitate pavements throughout the village. The board also voted unanimously to appropriate $650,000 in Motor Fuel Tax funds to the project, meaning the total capital improvement funding portion of the project will be $3.05 million. Trustees: More Details Needed on Road Referendum

Libertyville trustees would like to know how money would be used in the proposed road rehabilitation program.

Libertyville trustees say they would like clarity on what the proposed referendum to fix streets would be asking residents to vote on. “It should be crafted so there is information in terms of ‘yes’ and ‘no,’ about what they are voting on,” said Trustee Donna Johnson, who chairs the village’s Street Committee. “We just need to be clear about what it is we can do and not overpromise.” Mayor Terry Weppler plans to place a referendum on the March 2012 ballot asking voters if they would support issuing bonds to fix Libertyville-maintained roads; 70 percent of which are below average and could cost the village $32 million to fix, according to the Public Works Department.
