District 70 Approves $26 Million Tax Levy

The school board unanimously approves 2010 tax levy.

Libertyville School District 70 board members approved a proposed $26 million tax levy at the school board meeting on Monday night. The proposed tax levy includes: The school board also approved the 2011-2012 school calendar. Students will start the 2011 school year on Aug. 22. Winter break will be from Dec. 17 to Jan. 3, 2012, and spring break will be from March 26, 2012 to March 30, 2012.

New High School Academic Standards Aim for Literacy in All Curriculum Areas

Education reforms at the national level create a vision of what it means to be literate in the 21st century

Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Deborah Larson presented information on new 2010 standards, at the District 128 School Board meeting Nov. 16. The standards were created by academic leaders from 26 states who are members of the Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC).  In creating the standards, PARCC reviewed learning standards from different states and countries. The 2010 standards are the first new standards in the state since 1997. The new standards clearly define the skills and knowledge high school students need to be ready for college or a career. They also aim to create more independent-thinking students who can build on their knowledge and will value evidence.
