Libertyville School District 70 board members approved a proposed $26 million tax levy at the school board meeting on Monday night. The proposed tax levy includes: The school board also approved the 2011-2012 school calendar. Students will start the 2011 school year on Aug. 22. Winter break will be from Dec. 17 to Jan. 3, 2012, and spring break will be from March 26, 2012 to March 30, 2012.

Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Deborah Larson presented information on new 2010 standards, at the District 128 School Board meeting Nov. 16. The standards were created by academic leaders from 26 states who are members of the Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC). In creating the standards, PARCC reviewed learning standards from different states and countries. The 2010 standards are the first new standards in the state since 1997.
