Link Wins 30th District

Unofficial results show incumbent State Sen. Terry Link with more than 66 percent of the vote in the 30th Senate District.

Update 9:14 p.m. With 104 of 104 precincts reporting, along with early voting and vote by mail ballots, Link leads with 66.57 percent of the votes. Don Castella has 33.43 percent. The actual vote totals, according to unofficial results, show Link with 41,077 votes and Castella with 20,625. Update 8:56 p.m. Terry Link leads with 65.24 percent of the votes with all 104 precincts reporting, minus the early voting, vote by mail, provisional and late-arriving ballots. Don Castella has 34.76 percent of the votes. Terry Link gathered with supporters at Fiamico Pizza in Waukegan. It was a festive atmosphere, with balloons and plastic red Democrat hats. Link Gearing up for Election Day

Incumbent Democrat Terry Link will face Republican Don Castella for the 30th District Senate seat.

With Election Day almost upon him, 30th District State Sen. Terry Link said he finds himself playing chairman more than candidate. Link, a Democrat who serves as the majority caucus whip in the senate, said he's been spending much of his time recently looking at other candidates' campaigns and trying to help them out. "This last week, we're making sure we get the canvassers out and hitting all of the houses for all of the candidates," said Link. "We're making sure we get all of the votes, and coordinating it for the president all the day down." Link, who was first elected to the senate in November 1996, is being challenged for his seat by Republican Don Castella. Link said the final week before the election is all about coordination. Early Voting Starts Monday

Cast your ballot early and avoid the Election Day rush on Nov. 6.

Early voting in Lake County starts Monday, Oct. 22 and continues through Saturday, Nov. 3. To find your early voting location, go to www.lakevoterpower.info, and enter your information. For questions, call the county clerk's office at (847) 377-2410. Hours are the same at each location, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
