Ground Officially Broken at Trader Joe's Site

"This unique grocery store draws loyal customers from a wide area and is sure to be a popular and convenient stop for the surrounding workforce," said Tom Williams, managing partner at Paragon Real Estate.

Officials broke ground Monday on a planned Trader Joe's store in Libertyville, with the store expected to open later this year. Trader Joe's announced in February that it will open a 12,500-square-foot store on the site of the old Frank's Nursery, located at 1600 S. Milwaukee Ave. The real estate developer handling the project, Paragon Real Estate, also plans to build an 8,100-square-foot multi-tenant building on the 3-acre parcel. "We are fortunate to have Trader Joe's as our anchor tenant," Tom Williams, managing partner of Paragon Real Estate, said in a prepared statement. "This unique grocery store draws loyal customers from a wide area and is sure to be a popular and convenient stop for the surrounding workforce." Many readers on …

I'm excited to have TJ's coming to town. As far as our taxes go, I don't think it will have much of an impact. However, when you look at some communities in the area, our tax rate is very modest and we have outstanding schools which keeps our property values high. I love living in LV!   more ›

Development Agreement Approved for Trader Joe's

Construction is set to begin on the Libertyville site by the end of April.

Trader Joe's is one step closer to coming to Libertyville. Trustees voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve the development agreement and final plat of subdivision for the future Trader Joe's site at 1600 S. Milwaukee Ave. The 3.15-acre site is set to be home to two lots, one of them being Trader Joe's. The development agreement includes the installation of a sanitary sewer line across the eastern edge of the property, along with the installation of a storm water detention area, according to village documents. The development will not include a sidewalk along Milwaukee Avenue, however, because a barricade would be required at the railroad tracks, said John Spoden, director of community development. Trader Joe's announced in late …

Shouldn't a sidewalk be required?? Whenever I drive down Milwaukee Avenue, it always bothers me that no one can walk safely from Jewel to the new Trader Joes or Westfield Shopping Center. "If you build it (sidewalks) they will come".   more ›

What do you love about Trader Joe's?

When we announced last week that a Trader Joe's will be coming to Libertyville, readers reacted in a huge—and mostly positive—way. We received dozens of comments on the story itself, and on the Grayslake and Libertyville Patch Facebook pages. The story also got 972 Facebook recommends. "We need fireworks!!!!!" wrote one reader in the comment section of the original story. Another wrote on the Libertyville Patch Facebook page, "Finally!!!! This rumor has been going around town for quite some time now … Glad it is finally being put to rest. So excited!" Grayslake Patch readers also expressed excitement. Trader Joe's is Coming to Libertyville

Groundbreaking on the store is set to take place in April, the Daily Herald reports.

When Libertyville Patch asked readers a week ago what they'd like to see in the old Frank's Nursery location that had already been designated as the home for a new grocery store, there was one name at the top of the wish list: Trader Joe's. Well, your wish is coming true. Trader Joe's announced Wednesday that it will open a store in Libertyville in the old Frank's Nursery spot, the Daily Herald reported. A sign at the property indicated that a grocery store would be built in that location. "The developer is planning a grocery store there, but there has not been any announcement yet," Village Administrator Kevin Bowens told Patch last week. Many readers last week told Patch that they'd love to see a Trader Joe's in town. "I'd LOVE a Trader …

Is a New Grocery Store Coming to Libertyville?

What would you like to see in the vacant spot once occupied by Frank's Nursery on the village's southern edge?

If you've driven past the empty tract of land where Frank's Nursery was located years ago and have seen the sign touting a grocery store on the site, you've probably been wondering just what will be built there. "The developer is planning a grocery store there, but there has not been any announcement yet," said Village Administrator Kevin Bowens. While there may not be anything to announce just yet, there is definitely some speculation. A recent story on Vernon Hills Patch about residents hoping for a Trader Joe's in their village prompted this comment from a reader: "They are going to open in Libertyville, it's all set, old Frank's Nursery location across from Lowe's," the reader speculated. So we want to know: What are you hoping to see …
