This free program will be held Wednesday night at Stevenson High School.
A free program, "Parenting Your Teenager," will be presented at Stevenson High School from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 8. The program will break down complex concepts regarding adolescents, substance abuse, mental health issues, and risk factors in a succinct, relatable way. Parents of students in Districts 128, 125 and 214 are welcome to attend along with any interested community members. Register on-line by clicking here. Congratulations to Libertyville and Vernon Hills High School students who excelled in math and music at recent state competitions. Way to represent!
Students from Libertyville High School and Vernon Hills High School scored big at Saturday's Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) State Math Contest Finals at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The LHS team took first place in its division while the VHHS team placed second. In fine arts, the LHS Wind Ensemble and the VHHS Wind Ensemble were each named Honor Band in their divisions at the Illinois SuperState Concert Band Festival, also held at the University of Illinois. Rita Fischer, current assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction at Grayslake Community High School District 127, has just been hired to take on the same position in Community High School District 128.

The District 128 Board of Education has named Rita Fischer, Ed.D its new assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, effective July 1. Fischer currently holds the same position in Grayslake District 127. "Rita is highly regarded for her instructional leadership work and positive working relationships with teachers, administrators and staff to ensure student growth and increase student achievement," said District 128 Superintendent Prentiss Lea. LHS dropped four spots from 2012, when it was ranked No. 16 in Illinois. U.S. News created the rankings based on a list of more than 21,000 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia, according to a press release from U.S. News. Libertyville High School is among the most challenging public high schools in the United States, according to annual rankings by the Washington Post.
Does your teenager complain about classes and homework at Libertyville High School? He or she might be justified in griping. According to annual rankings created by the Washington Post, LHS is among the most challenging public high schools in the country. In Illinois, Libertyville High School ranks 13. Washington Post columnist Jay Mathews has rated public high schools around the country for the past 15 years based on something called the “Challenge Index,” according to a press release. Thirteen Community High School District 128 art students received honors in the 14th annual 4x5 Show held at Fremd High School in Palatine. More than 35 schools participate in the show with 1,300 pieces of artwork that are just 4 inches by 5 inches in size. The show will be on display at Fremd High School April 23-May 1, with an awards presentation and reception scheduled for May 1. The District 128 Foundation for Learning will host its third Annual Lace Up 4 Learning 5K Run/Walk on Monday, May 27. The race benefits the foundation and its mission to provide resources for innovative and creative instructional ideas that enrich the experiences and programs for Libertyville and Vernon Hills high school students. There is a new location for this year's event—Westfield Hawthorn Mall. The cost to register is $30 before the race and $35 on the day of the event. Summer school classes will be held at Libertyville High School beginning June 11.
Summer school registration information is being mailed over spring break to District 128 students. The webstore will be open Tuesday, April 2 for students. The registration deadline is April 26. After this date, the district will fill classes with both District 128 students and non-district students. Students are not officially enrolled in a class until they've completed registration form and payment has been received. For more information, go to www.d128.org/summer-school.

This rating system is flawed. It is based on the number of students who attempt the AP test, not the number who pass it and get credit. Some states pay the AP fees for all students to take the test. Does this mean they are all "the best"? Any educator knows that this method of "surveying" means absolutely nothing.   more ›
