Vernon Hills Village Board Paves Way for Chick-fil-A

Changes to building design met with approval.

After presenting a preliminary plan in June to open a new location on Milwaukee Avenue, Chick-fil-A went before the Vernon Hills Village Board again on Oct. 2, receiving support for a new parking and building layout. “Tonight was the recommendation to draft the ordinance to approve,” said Assistant Village Manager John Kalmar. While village officials were in support of Chick-fil-A opening a store in Vernon Hills, many trustees had safety concerns with the placement of the drive-thru lanes in the preliminary plans. The main entrance was placed next the to the drive-thru lanes, forcing pedestrians to walk through the lanes of traffic to enter the building. The new plans solved this problem, along with other minor issues. “First of all, my …

Just because you state your right. Doesn't mean others have to agree with you. You have made your point, you don't agree with just marriage, you agree with oth means of " marriage". Got it. Some would not agree with that lifestyle. I am one who doesn't. It's not that I hate them, I don't. I don't agree. I am mature enough to disagree without hatred. Façade Improvements Considered for Hobby Lobby Site

The store is set to open in the former Dominick's site in Vernon Hills.

Though a timeframe has not yet been set for when a Hobby Lobby store might open in the former Dominick's site in Vernon Hills, trustees are poised to approve façade improvements later this month. The ordinance would also allow the placement of a loading dock behind the building. In a press release issued Aug. 13, Inland Real Estate Corporation officials revealed that a lease "was signed with Hobby Lobby for 46,984 square feet at the Hawthorn Village Commons shopping center in Vernon Hills." "The addition of …

Vernon Hills Residents See Electric Aggregation Savings

Libertyville residents will start seeing the cost savings on their September bills.

Residents in Vernon Hills saw a total savings of just over $241,000 during the first month of the village's electric aggregation program. Village Manager Mike Allison added that a resident in Gregg's Landing reported saving $100 already. Vernon Hills, along with Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Palatine and Wheeling, formed a consortium and entered into an agreement with Integrys Energy Services, Inc. to save about 42 percent on electric rates. The price reduction refers to the electricity supply portion of the bill only, not the cost of delivery. The villages secured a rate of 4.775 cents per kilowatt hour. Trustee Thom Koch pointed out that the move actually costs the village. As Allison explained, the village …

The Westfield Hawthorn Mall is headed for an expansion and remodeling project that would include a 12-screen movie theater, restaurants and upgraded mall entrances. Westfield representatives presented their plan at a joint meeting of the Vernon Hills Village Board and the Planning and Zoning Board July 17, with time spent discussing architectural materials and signage. "We're really excited to be here in front of the village again," said Hide Kashima, development director for Westfield. Kashima and Westfield Vice President Michael Platt went through a slideshow that detailed proposed improvements for various sections of the mall.
