Don't forget to purchase your new sticker!
Have you purchased your 2013 village sticker yet? Last year's stickers officially expire April 30, and the new sticker must be on your car's windshield no later than May 1, according to a message in the Village Views newsletter. The stickers, which cost $30 for cars and trucks, are available at Village Hall. According to the village, "100 percent of vehicle sticker revenue—approximately $400,000—goes to repairing village streets." The minimum fine for not displaying a valid sticker is $100.

Fees to increase May 1.
The Libertyville Village Board approved several rate increases, including rates for water and sewer at its April 23 meeting. The bi-monthly water service charge will increase $1.20 from $27.20 to $28.40, while a supplemental fee for water usage in excess of 4,000 gallons will increase 30-cents per additional 1,000 gallons. The bi-monthly sewer service charge will increase $1.40 from $18.20 to $20.20. Rate increases were also approved for water meter installation and ambulance transportation. Libertyville is seeking to consolidate its commercial waste collection.
The Village of Libertyville is considering hiring a single commercial waste and recycling franchise hauler that could save business owners money, reported the Chicago Tribune. Trustees recently approved issuing a request for proposals during a public hearing. The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) conducted a survey of Libertyville businesses last year. In addition to potential cost savings for businesses, having a commercial waste hauler would increase commercial recycling options and reduce garbage truck traffic in concentrated business areas, according to the village. In 2012, Libertyville homes sold for 1.5 percent less than they did in 2011, Chicago Magazine reports.
Home sale prices in Libertyville have dropped slightly, according to a recent Chicago Magazine article. The article profiled what homes cost in several suburbs and Chicago neighborhoods. Along with Libertyville, home sale prices are also down in neighboring Grayslake, Lake Zurich and Buffalo Grove, but up in Vernon Hills. The magazine’s data shows the median sale price for a Libertyville home in 2012 was $400,000, down 1.5 percent from 2011, and 20.8 percent since 2006. There were 308 home sales last year in Libertyville, with homes staying on the market an average of 169 days, the magazine reports. Most Chicagoland suburbs have experienced a decrease in home sale prices, making now a great time to buy, according to economists. Zillow …

What do you love most about Libertyville?
The village of Libertyville has been listed on CNN Travel's list of "America's best small town comebacks." The list was released March 12 on the CNN website, touting the story as being about towns that were "once down on their luck" that "have become attractions again." Libertyville, the article says, first attempted a revitalization in the 1960s. The village is now "unveiling its old Victorian facades" and is home to things like boutiques and shops, according to CNN Travel. The villages of Grayslake and Libertyville will soon share an adjudication program. Grayslake trustees voted unanimously Tuesday night to authorize the administrative hearing system and operate the system in conjunction with another municipality. Trustees also voted unanimously to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with Libertyville to utilize the latter's adjudication system. Libertyville Plan Commission postpones a vote on a proposed warehouse after hearing resident concerns related to increased noise, traffic and lighting.
The Village of Libertyville's Plan Commission heard a proposal from Chicago-based Bridge Development Partners, LLC to construct a warehousing distribution facility on 21 acres of land at 804 East Park Drive Monday, but decided to table a vote to approve after hearing residents' concerns, reported TribLocal. "Not in my backyard," said residents living near proposed site, according to TribLocal. Residents are concerned the facility could affect their quality of life as a result of increased traffic, noise and lights. The petitioner is seeking a special use permit for a warehouse and storage facility along Route 176 in the village's General Industrial District, in what is known as the Aldridge Business Center. With the recent closures of two downtown Libertyville businesses—Wisma and Soccer Plus—we want to know: what would you like to see in those spots? Soccer Plus announced earlier this month that it would close its Libertyville and Palatine stores. The Libertyville store closed and its merchandise was moved to the Palatine store for a liquidation sale, according to the Daily Herald Business Ledger. More recently, Wisma closed its doors Jan. 15. A sign on the door read: "Thank you for your patronage. Effective 1/15/13 Libertyville Wisma is closed. Please visit us at our Lake Bluff Wisma Store."
