2013 Village Stickers Must be Displayed by May 1

Don't forget to purchase your new sticker!

Have you purchased your 2013 village sticker yet? Last year's stickers officially expire April 30, and the new sticker must be on your car's windshield no later than May 1, according to a message in the Village Views newsletter. The stickers, which cost $30 for cars and trucks, are available at Village Hall. According to the village, "100 percent of vehicle sticker revenue—approximately $400,000—goes to repairing village streets." The minimum fine for not displaying a valid sticker is $100.

Commercial Waste Hauler Could Save Business Money

Libertyville is seeking to consolidate its commercial waste collection.

The Village of Libertyville is considering hiring a single commercial waste and recycling franchise hauler that could save business owners money, reported the Chicago Tribune. Trustees recently approved issuing a request for proposals during a public hearing. The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) conducted a survey of Libertyville businesses last year. See those survey results here. In addition to potential cost savings for businesses, having a commercial waste hauler would increase commercial recycling options and reduce garbage truck traffic in concentrated business areas, according to the village. The earliest date for implementation of the plan would be Nov. 15, 2014, according to the village. Highland Park and Highwood have …

Libertyville Included in List of 'Best Small Town Comebacks'

What do you love most about Libertyville?

The village of Libertyville has been listed on CNN Travel's list of "America's best small town comebacks." The list was released March 12 on the CNN website, touting the story as being about towns that were "once down on their luck" that "have become attractions again." If Grayslake saves 10x the cost, then is Libertyville picking up their costs? Why doesn't L'ville use some other village's system and save the difference?   more ›

The Village of Libertyville's Plan Commission heard a proposal from Chicago-based Bridge Development Partners, LLC to construct a warehousing distribution facility on 21 acres of land at 804 East Park Drive Monday, but decided to table a vote to approve after hearing residents' concerns, reported TribLocal. "Not in my backyard," said residents living near proposed site, according to TribLocal. All valis points. Why table the vote? Why not just vote no? Is this another case of Libertyville already having their minds made up? I guess if they drag this out hoping that the residents will fade, they can vote it through at some point, and say they followed due process. The facility will probably be powered by several wind turbines, that will be approved in a closed door session. The …   more ›

What Businesses Would You Like to See in Downtown Libertyville?

Do you think there is something missing downtown?

With the recent closures of two downtown Libertyville businesses—Wisma and Soccer Plus—we want to know: what would you like to see in those spots? Soccer Plus announced earlier this month that it would close its Libertyville and Palatine stores. The Libertyville store closed and its merchandise was moved to the Palatine store for a liquidation sale, according to the Daily Herald Business Ledger. More recently, Wisma closed its doors Jan. 15. A sign on the door read: "Thank you for your patronage. Effective 1/15/13 Libertyville Wisma is closed. Please visit us at our Lake Bluff Wisma Store." Wisma owner John des Rosiers couldn't be reached for comment. What would you like to see in these vacant storefronts? What do you think is missing …

How anyone can suggest that we need another niche shop is beyond me. Per Kathleen's experience and comments, we all love the idea of a toy store, but when we can find these toys on Amazon at 50 - 75% of the price, we'll buy there - especially the big ticket items that provide decent revenue for the small shops. The problem is not a demographic one: My wife and I are city transplants with 2 young …   more ›
