Highland Middle School Wrestlers Compete at State

“We have had a great year of wrestling,” said Coach Rob Rajcevich

Five Highland Middle School wrestlers competed on the state level this month, with two eighth-graders placing third and fourth respectively in their weight classes. Paddy Potts placed third in 100 lbs weight class in state while Jackson Damenti placed fourth in 126 lbs weight class. Other HMS wrestlers competing at Northern Illinois University on the state level included Tyler Padilla, Dylan Ledman, Jake DeBruler, The state tournament was held in conjunction with the Illinois Elementary School Association. “Paddy Potts broke a school record of “best place finisher” in the history of Highland wrestling when he placed third,” said coach and physical education teacher Rob Rajcevich. “Jackson Damenti also broke a record for 'most matches' – …

Libertyville High School Wrestlers Qualify for State Tournament

Six Libertyville High School wrestlers qualified for state at a sectional tournament in Barrington last weekend.

Six Libertyville High School wrestlers qualified for the state wrestling tournament this past weekend after placing third at the Barrington sectional meet, according to IHSA results.  The following LHS wrestlers will now compete at the state tournament, to be held Feb. 14 to 16 at Assembly Hall in Champaign: Learn more about the Libertyville High School Wildcats at http://lhswildcats.org/wrestling. Eye on Libertyville High School Sports

Boys basketball off to a good start. Varsity boys bowler Jack Baumruk is rolling well. Girls basketball has a pair of blow out wins.

Libertyville High School athletic director Briant Kelly chooses athletes of the week for his high school. Last week, he saluted Libertyville boys bowler Jack Baumruk. It seems Baumruk has figured out this winter sport. His scores of 658 against Lake Zurich and 675 against Vernon Hills were a big improvement on his scores from the last year. About 50 pins better that is. Of course last year, Baumruk was a freshman on the varsity. Now he's an experienced sophomore leading the Wildcats. These Wildcats fell to Lake Zurich to open the campaign but gave Vernon Hills all they could handle in a 5-4 loss. The Wildcats head for Niles next Tuesday for a battle with Evanston. Team of the Week: Libertyville Boys Wrestling

It's the 25th season for head wrestling coach Dale Eggert. And the incoming class of wrestlers will be tested.

This winter marks the 25th season in which Dale Eggert has guided the Libertyville High School boys wrestling team. And a year after his team won 17 and dropped only five matches; he brings back a few experienced and talented performers. Three seniors combined to win 73 matches last year and the Wildcats will look to Charlie Meyer, Pat Fitzgerald and Kyle May to lead the way this winter. Fitzgerald qualified for the state tournament as a sophomore. He will be asked to tackle the 126 weight for this final season of high school wrestling. He won 22 matches at 112 last year. Fellow senior, Meyer, is also stepping up in weight class. At 125 last year, he rung up 31 wins and will be asked to take over the 132 weight this season. May won 20 …
