Community High School District 128 has received formal approval from the Illinois Department of Public Health for the Wildcat’s swimming pool.

After six months, Community High School District 128 finally has received formal approval of the Libertyville High School Swimming Pool Compliance plan. Depending on the results of bidding contractor vetting, the Board of Education will award a Libertyville High School pool construction contract at its regular meeting that evening. Once the contract is awarded, construction is expected to begin as …

District 128 Pool Users Adapt to New Schedule

Community High School District 128 closed pools at Libertyville and Vernon Hills high schools on Oct. 1.

This week is the start of figuring out new schedules for many pool users at Community High School District 128 pools. The district closed pools Oct. 1 at Libertyville and Vernon Hills high schools after it failed to get an extension to meet a pool compliance mandate. Some parents blame the district, while others say the state is also at fault for not communicating the changes well to the district. Regardless of who is to blame, the pool closures are more than just an inconvenience for swimmers — it also is eating into busy schedules. “I’m getting less time to myself with homework being piled on with less time in the day,” said Morgan Dickson, a junior who is one of the top swimmers at Libertyville High School. Dickson broke the school’s …

What a mess. Overall, I am very impressed with D128, however on this issue, the district completely blew it. They had years to comply with this very important safety issue, but did not. We have literally the only schools in the entire county that did not meet the deadline. If notification was such a problem, how did every other single school in the district get it...we did not?! That's bad enough…   more ›

Patch Flash: 22-Year-Old Goes to Trial for Deadly Party Game Punch

Chicagoland news to talk about: West suburban high school football player rape case in court this week.

Libertyville and Vernon Hills High Schools Likely to Face Temporary Pool Closures

Community High School District 128 will likely have to close district pools on Oct. 1.

Community High School District 128 Superintendant Prentiss Lea, along with a team of engineers, traveled to Springfield Monday to meet with Illinois Department of Public Health officials hoping to gain headway on pool modification plans. “In a 45-minute conversation on the specifications of our plan, we learned that we are going to have to make significant modifications on our two facilities,” Lea announced at the regular school board meeting hours after returning from Springfield. The state of Illinois has mandated that pools must be in compliance with federal safety standards by Oct. 1, 2011, or close. The health department has rejected two submissions from the district, saying that the plans don’t meet the required standards. Lea …

This should have been taken care of a long time ago and not at the expense of the girls who work so hard everyday to compete in our conference. Most of …   more ›
