ReplyI know Bonnie quite well and she does not tell the library what books may be bought, though she sometimes suggests titles that would be loverlooked. She is a woman who defends the right to life of all humans and has worked decades as a dedicated nurse as well as the mother of six as proof of her concern for others. Would that we had more people like her in our world.

On the Blog Post Is Global Warming being taught in your school district?

Steve, my name is "Margaret" not "Marge." Just a tiny quibble about getting facts straight. I know that you think you're too cute for words, but mostly you are just childish. For all of you hyperventilating about global warming, here's a solution to reducing carbon emissions -- stop breathing.

ReplySteve,
I think you should review the "science" de-bunked when the hockey stick chart was shown to be falsified and when Michael Mann, of East Anglia University, had his e-mails hacked and published in which he admitted that he and others pressured the reviewing scientific journals to publish their junk science and tinkered with statistics to claim their results. Maybe you've forgotten all that? Huffington Post is not exactly a respected journal, but a Left-leaning online opinion outlet, with no expertise in reviewing any scientific material. Nice try though.

ReplyObviously we have a problem with border control -- note the surnames of those driving without licenses -- they also vote because you don't have to show proof of citizenship to vote, just proof of residency, like a phone bill!

ReplySteve is the dangerous one -- a name caller and an enemy of the freedom of speech and the press. He clearly doesn't know Ms. Thorner who is a sturdy soul and well able to defend herself. She is not easily bullied either.

ReplyPerhaps you would take my advice and stop confirming to readers that you are a fool who has nothing to add to the discussion but insults to those who post?

ReplyAmusing comments from the "peanut gallery" who never have any data or links to data, but are quick with the nasty attacks on the writer who at least has documentation for her assertions.

On the Blog Post Illegals carry rare and deadly diseases across border

ReplyThanks, Gary, for explaining what folks like Briarwood are about. He brings up the cost of treating illegals as the only argument against them being here (it's not really clear what his point is so I'm surmising his intent) and then suggests that those who have other concerns (disease, lack of interest in the American experiment, loyalty to other countries) are hood-wearing KKK members (no smear intended, of course).
Since he has the same spiel on everything Nancy or others write, he must be assigned by his Leftist commmittee to monitor the site and regurgitate his tired message. I wonder if he is paid to do this? If so, it can't be much.

On the article Poll: Should Township Government Be Eliminated?
Margaret McCarthy
3:38 pm on Sunday, March 24, 2013
ReplyTwonship government was instituted in part to serve the needs of the poor. The belief then was that local officials knew the people who genuinely needed help. At present, they operate an emergency fund and a food pantry while directing the needy to other long-term sources of aid. Most townships in the metropolitan area are almost completely incorporated so the townships roads and services could easily be absorbed into municipalities or counties. With most of the long-term aid to the poor coming from state and federal funds, townships have become redundant -- in particular when they maintain far-flung roads within counties. Ditto for township assessors whose efforts are duplicated by the county -- whole offices could be eliminated along with the cost of buildings, salaries, benefits and pensions of the staffs.

No, a tax on online goods will make people angry because much of the things available online are not available in local stores. Now we have to pay shipping and a tax. This is the way of big box stores sabotaging competition. It will cost the jobs of shippers that serve online businesses also. How many new ways can Congress destroy the market economy of our country?
