West Parking Lot Substantially Completed by October

Libertyville residents will be able to use the improved lot behind the Village Hall in fall.

Last week’s storm did not hinder progress at the West Parking Lot project, which is expected to be “substantially completed” by Oct. 1, according to Libertyville Public Works Director John Heinz.

The storm, which left thousands of people without power last week, did not affect the parking lot improvement project on the lot behind the rear of businesses on Milwaukee Avenue and Village Hall, because electrical power was not lost to the area, Heinz said during Tuesday’s Parking Commission meeting.

The brick walls for the trash enclosures and the planters may not be finished, but the lot should be useable by that date.

At some point during construction, a construction fence will be erected, blocking part of the lot from customers. However, delivery trucks will be able to enter, although they will not be allowed to block the south entrance, near Village Hall.

Parking Commission members also discussed parking time zones for the new lot. Stalls next to Village Hall and along the southeast side of the lot, directly behind businesses, will remain 30 minute or less parking. Four of those spots will be restricted to Village Hall business only. About one-third of the remaining spots will be one-hour parking, and the rest will be two-hour parking spots.

Officials will not know the total number of parking stalls until construction is nearer to completion, but they expect about the same number of spots.
